French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde plans to travel to Brazil on Monday (5/30/2011). He sought support for his candidacy to head the International Monetary Fund, said the French Embassy on Friday (27/05/2011).
Brazil will become the first stop on a tour of the major developing countries are also expected, including visits to China and India.
Lagarde will have lunch with colleagues from Brazil, Guido Mantega, and also will meet with President of Central Bank of Brazil Alexandre Tombini, the embassy said.
French Finance Minister is the favorite to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned as head of international financial organizations because of allegations of sexual violence in New York.
Countries that called BRICs, the economic strength of developing countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, had criticized the IMF gripped Europe. Nevertheless, the BRICs have not agreed on their own candidate.
