Despite fierce resistance, Rafael Nadal still won three straight sets to face opponents from Spain, Pablo Andujar, to step into the third round of French Open, Thursday, May 26, 2011.
After being forced to play five sets against John Isner in the first round, Nadal again had to work hard in the second round. Even so, the world number one was still able to beat Andujar three straight sets 7-5, 6-3 and 7-6.
"Maybe I played a little nervous, and that's why my legs do not work very well as usual," Nadal said after the game as reported by AP.
Furthermore, Nadal will face Croatian tennis player, Antonio Veic, who toppled 28th seed Nikolay Davydenko in four sets match 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, 3-6 and 6-1.
Another son of tennis player who also penetrate the third round of Roland Garros is Andy Murray, Robin Soderling and 10th seed Mardy Fish. Meanwhile, eighth seed from Austria, Jurgen Melzer, toppled from the Czech Republic Lukas Rosol.
Surprises happen in the women after second seed Kim Clijsters ousted the world's 114th ranked tennis player from the Netherlands, Arantxa Rus, 3-6, 7-5 and 6-1.
"I started the game with doubts. For me to start the game with a doubt on clay, is a wrong attitude," said Clijsters.
Maria Sharapova stepped into the third round by beating 17-year French, Caroline Garcia, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0. Fourth seed from Belarus, Victoria Azarenka, together with Li Na (China) and Petra Kvitova also stepped into the next round.
