"The two Marines were patrolling the kingdom, which disrupt insurgent activity, when they were killed by an explosion caused by a homemade bomb (IED)."
Their next of kin have been notified, the defense ministry said. It makes 368 the number of deaths of British soldiers who have died since operations in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
Britain has 9,500 troops in Afghanistan, making it the second largest contributor after the United States in the US-led coalition.
