U.S. embrace Libyan Opposition

WASHINGTON - The United States (U.S.) invites Opposition representative of Libya to build headquarters in Washington. This is done because it is impossible for the U.S. to dialogue with Gaddafi.

Unlike France, the U.S. did not fully recognize the opposition, the National Transition Council (NTC) as the sole representative Libyans. But U.S. President Barack Obama said the council is legitimate and trustworthy. So As reported by Reuters on Wednesday (25/05/2011).

"Formal Invitation to the council to establish a representative office in Washington is a cornerstone of good relations. I'm glad they accepted our bid," said Assistant Secretary Bureau of Near Eastern United States, Jeffrey Feltman.

"We're not talking to Gaddafi and his subjects, and Tripoli, Gaddafi has been isolated by the international community and the NTC is currently increasing cooperation with the international community and the Arab world," he added.

Previously, the European Union through its foreign policy affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, has also visited the Benghazi and expressed support for the opposition.
