Israel Transfers Funds to Palestinians


JERUSALEM - Israel agreed to disburse funds to the Palestinian government. This was done after the Palestinians signed a pact of unity of the warring factions.

Initially, these funds would be sent to the Palestinians earlier this month but was postponed, following allegations that funds actually go to the militants. The Palestinian Authority itself signed a unity pact with Hamas group.

Following this, Israel was pressured by the international community for funds poured aid to the Palestinians. While the number of new funds will be determined, after the Israeli cabinet meeting. So reported the Associated Press on Monday (5/16/2011).

After the warring Palestinian factions re-united, Israeli security forces guarding tight in the border region. The military has even arrested an unarmed man from Syria, who tried to break into the Golan plateau and to force entry to Israel.

Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the man was arrested in a taxi that was captured by Palestinians from east Jerusalem. Police also had to search for hundreds of Syrians who attempted forced entry into Israel.
