Former President of Tunisia will be on trial in military court



TUNISIA - Tunisian authorities have handed over the case of the former President of Tunisia Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali to a military court on Wednesday, May 11.

Ben Ali, who left Tunisia to Saudi Arabia after a rally in January, last week was indicted for the murder of demonstrators during a protest against the 23-year reign. Tunisian authorities said they had 18 cases of the former president was legal.

Ben Ali was indicted for a series of crimes including conspiring with the security plan in the country and incited to cause chaos, murder and looting. Similarly, as reported by Reuters on Thursday (05/12/2011).

Also, Ben Ali also accused of murder was not planned, use and distribute drugs. Authorities are now seeking the extradition Ben Ali from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile the provisional government of Tunisia, who is trying to assert its authority and legitimacy in the eyes of protesters, promised to investigate the characters in Ben Ali's reign. Some family members of Ben Ali and the security forces, as well as a few close allies, joined arrested moments after Ben Ali's government was overthrown.

Tunisia news agency, TAP reported, the case of former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia and senior police officers also will be tried in military courts.
